When you have an accident you have a choice of using qualified solicitors or claims management companies. However, claims management companies are unregulated meaning if anything goes wrong you have nobody to complain to. By contrast, all solicitors are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

If anyone other than a solicitor's firm promises to handle your claim they will not be legally qualified to do so. Claims management companies usually receive substantial fees known as referral fees for selling your claim on to their panel solicitors. The panel solicitors are usually nowhere near where you live, and because claims management companies make money, usually around £500 for selling your claim on, your claim would not usually be handled by qualified solicitors. Some can take a percentage of your compensation, as much as £1,250.
